World Champion Vishy Anand retained his title by beating Boris Gelfand 2.5-1.5 in a tiebreak final held on May 30th, 2012 in the State Tretyakov Gallery’s Engineering Building in Moscow, Russia.

Why is it a disgrace? Carlsen chose not to participate, are they supposed to stop the whole thing as a result? And Aronian was in the candidates tournament and didn’t win. Gelfand earned his spot as a challenger to the title.
this is actually such a disappointment… this pig of WC gets to keep his stupid title..its a disgrace that the world has to call anand by that title…EMBARRASING.
I mean i cant even understand how in the name of god people actually support anand still… gelfand should actually be called worldchampion right now.. as hilarious the thought of it was when he won kazan was anand cannot be allowed to have just pulled off the most pathetic disgrace of a performance of his life and keep the title
it was like Kasparov said… it is not a battle for who is the best chess player… unfortunately…
Wearing a Jacket and bringing tea to the board cost Boris the match. His Seconds failed him.
Take that boring Boris fans!
did you even watch the games?
the whole candidates tournament was a disaster. instead of a normal round-robbin with 8 players, they opted for a series of mini-matches that were all drawn and then the tiebreaks were played in rapid and blitz. Therefore they played blitz and Gelfand won on blitz.
All this because FIDE and the Russian chess federation were cheapskates who didn’t want to host the tournament properly, or didn’t have the money.
Carlsen rightfully didn’t agree to such conditions. He is not a blitz player.
no his minutes failed him.
I really like Anand and Gelfand being friendly. It is soo much better than that Kramnik Topalov match. So much more professional.
Congrats Anand. It wasn’t a very decisive win but you definitely didn’t lose either.
Gelfand looks pissed as he should be given this was probably his only chance and he made one dumb blunder in game 8 that destroyed himself. How could he lose with that massive forehead?
The world champion isn’t the better player, he is the one who wins the match! The quality of the play wasn’t much by any standards, these two are past their prime.
In my opinion it is disgraceful that Gelfand was the challenger while two objectively stronger players such as Carlsen and Aronian are not.
